Inclusive Health: Muscular Dystrophy, Rare Diseases & Disability Care 

In rural and conflict-affected areas, children with Muscular Dystrophy (MD) and persons with disabilities (PWDs) suffer from extreme isolation and a dire lack of specialized care. Together, we can change this narrative through innovative, community-driven interventions:

All-Terrain Mobility & Assistive Devices:

Standard wheelchairs are often useless on unpaved rural roads. We provide durable, locally adapted mobility aids—such as all-terrain tricycles—and custom splints/braces, empowering children to stay mobile and independent.

Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR):

 With physical therapists few and far between, we train family members and local health workers in essential physiotherapy, stretching routines, and daily care management, significantly improving the quality of life for those impacted.

Inclusive Education & Adaptive Technology:

We retrofit ACOHOF classrooms with ramps and accessible desks, and provide adaptive learning tools (such as audio resources or modified writing grips) to ensure that children with fine-motor skill challenges remain engaged and active in their education.

Specialized Nutritional Interventions:

MD and rare diseases often lead to severe malnutrition. We supply targeted nutritional supplements and soft-food rations, safeguarding the health of vulnerable children in our care.

Accessible Micro-Business Grants:

For People With Disabilities who are unable to perform heavy agricultural labor, we offer seed capital and training to help them start accessible, home-based businesses (such as tailoring, craftwork, or small retail) to ensure their financial independence.

Urgent Medical Care:

In the midst of their perilous journey, injuries and illnesses can strike at any moment. We ensure access to emergency clinics and provide basic first aid to those in need, caring for their physical well-being so they can begin to rebuild their lives.

At the ACOHOF Family Farm Schools in Bankim and Tatum, along with the Bilingual Technical Vocational College of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship, we offer them more than just an education; we provide a transformative and nurturing haven that empowers them to rebuild their lives.

Holistic Dormitory Care:

We understand that a secure environment is essential for learning. That's why we house at-risk students in our school dormitories, ensuring they feel safe and cared for. Innovative WASH: Clean Water, Sanitation, and Dignity

In Bankim and several other localities in the Adamaoua region, countless internally displaced persons (IDPs) have sought refuge, but the reality they face is often grim. Overcrowded host homes and makeshift shelters leave many without the basic sanitation facilities we often take for granted. We're committed to making a difference through innovative, cost-effective solutions that cater specifically to the needs of those living in these challenging conditions.

Household Bio-Sand and SODIS Purification:

Our approach begins with empowering families. We provide Bio-Sand filters for households and offer training in Solar Water Disinfection (SODIS). This means families can purify their water safely, without needing electricity or costly chemicals—giving them control over their health and wellbeing.

Tippy Tap Handwashing Stations:

To combat the spread of diseases, we’re installing pedal-operated handwashing stations made from locally sourced materials. These touch-free solutions make it easy for everyone, especially children, to practice good hygiene and protect themselves and their communities.

Portable Eco-Latrines:

Recognizing the lack of proper sanitation facilities, we are introducing community-managed eco-latrines that are environmentally friendly and require no plumbing. This innovative solution not only enhances dignity but also safeguards local groundwater from contamination, benefiting the broader community.

Women’s Dignity and MHM Kits:

We believe no girl should miss out on her education because of menstruation. Our Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) kits, which include reusable sanitary pads, soap, and clean underwear, ensure that displaced girls can manage their periods safely and maintain their school attendance.

Decentralized Rainwater Harvesting:

To provide a reliable source of clean water, we equip host-family compounds and the roofs of ACOHOF schools with rainwater catchment systems. This simple yet effective solution creates a safe water reservoir, reducing the burden of water collection for families.
