ACOHOF STRATEGIC SUSTAINABILITY PARTNERS
Pens for Kids UK
Advancing Educational Change
At the Afoni Children of Hope Foundation (ACOHOF), we work to ensure that vulnerable children across Cameroon have access to education that lasts. A major part of making this vision happen is our strong network of international partners, who help us remove barriers to learning and support positive change in the communities we serve.
Honoring Our Collaboration with Pens for Kids UK
One of the partnerships we value most is with Pens for Kids UK, whose support has made a real difference in the learning resources available to our students.
- Partnership Beginnings: This collaboration began during the “Back to School 2012” campaign.
- Initial Donation: The first shipment included around 2,700 pens, helping us take an important step toward meeting basic classroom needs.
- Continued Assistance: Over time, the support expanded, bringing regular supplies such as pencils, rulers, and erasers, giving students access to a wider range of learning materials.
- Beneficiaries: These essential items are distributed carefully to students in Levels 1, 2, and 3, strengthening their learning foundations and encouraging a genuine interest in education.
- Location Focus: Much of this program supports the ACOHOF Family Farm Schools in Tatum and Bankim, where the impact of these contributions is especially strong.
Special Acknowledgment to Malcolm O’Brien
We also want to sincerely recognize Malcolm O’Brien, the Founding President of Pens for Kids UK. His consistent passion, commitment, and generosity have been key to the success and continued strength of our partnership. Malcolm’s belief in our mission motivates our team and brings hope, along with real opportunities, to the children we serve. His dedication has changed many lives—and will continue to influence future generations.
TAG Global Training & TAG Aviation
In addition to Pens for Kids UK, we have received support from TAG Global Training and TAG Aviation since 2016. Their partnership has provided important logistical and institutional help.
- Community Engagement: Our community members actively contribute by donating surplus stationery, which helps strengthen our educational work.
- Collection Points: We set up practical collection locations, including airport reception areas, to gather donated items, such as pens, efficiently from hotels and events.
- Crisis Support: During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, this partnership proved its resilience by successfully delivering critical educational materials to Bankim.
- Operations Management: Megan Mulcahy helps oversee and coordinate complex international shipments each year, ensuring resources arrive on time.
- Online Outreach: Amy Mulholland leads our digital outreach through TAG’s LinkedIn platform, increasing awareness of our work and encouraging further support.
The Value of International Assistance
International support is especially important right now, considering Cameroon’s current socio-economic and political challenges.
- Political Instability: Since 2017, ongoing unrest has led to school closures and damage to educational facilities.
- Educational Interruptions: Many children have had to pause their education, creating gaps in essential foundational learning.
- Aid for Displaced People: We also provide educational materials directly to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), addressing urgent needs faced by these vulnerable communities.
- Economic Challenges: Many families survive on only $1–$2 per day, making it difficult to afford even basic school supplies.
Broadening Our Reach Beyond Our Schools
Although our programs primarily support students at the ACOHOF Family Farm School and the ACOHOF Bilingual Technical Vocational College of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship in Bankim, our mission is to expand our impact across the wider region.
To support every child we can, ACOHOF organizes large-scale distributions for community schools. We work closely with local education leaders, who share carefully verified student registries. This helps ensure that resources reach the most vulnerable children—such as orphans, displaced students, and those identified by their headteachers as needing the most help.
Request for Donations: Needed Items
To continue advancing our mission, ACOHOF is actively seeking both material and financial support. We welcome donations of:
- Educational Supplies: Blue and black pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, and rulers.
-School Equipment: Sturdy school bags, backpacks, and geometry sets.
- Sports Gear: Footballs, jerseys, whistles, and other items for school sports programs.
- Mobility Devices: Wheelchairs, crutches, and other walking aids to help children with disabilities access education.
Sustaining the Impact
The Afoni Children of Hope Foundation extends deep gratitude to Pens for Kids UK for their steadfast support and trust in our mission. Their generous donations have a life-changing impact on marginalized children.
We also sincerely thank Malcolm O’Brien for his dedication and inspiring leadership, which has shaped our organization and the children we serve. His commitment reflects the kind of partnership that builds hope and leads to lasting change.
“We are deeply thankful to TAG Aviation and especially to Pens for Kids UK for their trust and dedication, which enable us to create meaningful educational opportunities for vulnerable youth.”

Water for Cameroon (WfC Ireland)
Enhancing Public Health through Access to Safe Drinking Water
The arrival of Water for Cameroon (Ireland) at our Bankim campus was a major turning point in ACOHOF’s modern history. It completely reshaped our infrastructure, thanks to the inspiring leadership and tireless commitment of Mr. Michael Toolan and Sr. Serophine. By financing and building a high-capacity, hand-dug campus well, this partnership quickly ended severe water shortages for more than 140 Internally Displaced Children (IDPs) and hundreds of families in the surrounding area. At the same time, the real value of this partnership goes far beyond water on its own—it has created a multi-layered, systemic impact.
The End of Waterborne Health Crises:
Before Mr. Toolan and Sr. Serophine stepped in, our displaced students and host families relied on unsafe, shallow water sources, resulting in widespread outbreaks of typhoid, amoebiasis, and chronic dysentery. Today, because of the clean water supply and the widespread use of biosand filters, waterborne illnesses are virtually nonexistent on our campus. As a result, our children stay healthy, thrive, and remain consistently in class.
Improving Education and Safety for the Girl-Child:
Bringing a reliable, high-volume water source directly to the school removed a heavy traditional burden from our students’ shoulders—especially young girls. Instead of spending dangerous early mornings or late evenings walking long distances to carry heavy containers from remote streams, our children can now use that time for learning, rest, vocational training, and play.
Building Agroecological and Nutritional Self-Reliance:
Through WfC Ireland’s targeted training workshops on drip irrigation, ACOHOF connected the new water infrastructure directly to our Family Farm School agricultural plots. This technical link enables our students to grow high-yield vegetable crops year-round, even during the dry season, when conditions are harsh. It has significantly strengthened food security on campus and ensures that our children enjoy fresh, highly nutritious, farm-to-table meals every day.
Mr. Michael Toolan’s Gift of Economic Empowerment:
Rather than settling for temporary charity, Mr. Toolan pushed for long-term vocational independence for our foundation. By providing ACOHOF with specialized steel molds and hands-on technical training, he equipped us with the ability to manufacture concrete bio-sand water filters on our own. This has helped establish a dynamic social enterprise within our school, giving our young people practical, highly marketable skills in engineering, plumbing, and public health sanitation.
Sr. Serophine’s Plan for Cultural Harmony and Community Healing:
Acting as our on-the-ground guiding presence, Sr. Serophine expertly managed the community access system for the well. By opening this essential resource to both our English-speaking IDP students and the French-speaking host families in Bankim, she transformed a public utility into a welcoming space for cultural integration. Her hygiene-promotion workshops encouraged real community ownership, turning a clean-water well into a powerful symbol of regional healing, mutual respect, and lasting peace.
